About Seafest 2022

The Seafest Committee are pleased to announce that this year we’ll be back to having the large marquee, bar and stage facilities we had before the pandemic. Do check out some of our in-marquee events, such as our opening night – the Seafest BBQ Dance on 6th August – featuring the auction of a painting of the old and new bridge donated by artist Rob Wigham.

For anyone new to Lossiemouth – Seafest is our annual celebration of our town’s fishing heritage. It’s emergence in July 2014 helped raise funds for the formation of the Lossiemouth Community Development Trust. By 2017 it had grown into a weeklong event, and the marquee at Station Park was used for the first time to allow a greater range of activities to take place.

We are grateful for the ongoing support of the Scottish White Fish Producers Association, our local sponsors and our team of volunteers. Seafest simply couldn’t run without its dedicated committee – Donna, Andrew, Gisela, Grahame, Mo, Ericka, Fiona and Helen. We’re always looking to expand our friendly circle of passionate locals. If you’ve got a bit of time to help Seafest happen we’d love to hear from you on Facebook or by email – seafest@lossietrust.org

You may have noticed some new characters on the scene – Skipper the dolphin and his pesky pals can be found on treasure hunts and at family activities during Seafest. Each one of Skipper’s cartoon friends reminds us of a unique part of Lossiemouth’s heritage, from the Herring Girl with her pet fish (Silver Darling), to powerful beings of legend – like Crystal Feet the mischievous merman, and his friend Greengoon – the magic maid who lives among the skerries! Look out for more characters still to come, like the spooky sailor Iron Hand, and Saltopus Elginensis (Salty)– possibly the earliest known dinosaur – discovered right here in Lossie!

Garden looking bonnie? Why not enter it into Seafest’s garden competition? You could win vouchers for shopping at Decora, and a trophy, by emailing Seafest will be hosting a range of amateur competitions from gardening to painting…

Yep Paint The View is back and this time we’ll get to paint the new view, our new bridge! As before, entrants are encouraged to come along and paint outdoors together on Saturday the 13th of August. This friendly competition will be run by Moray Art Centre who will have professional artists and materials on hand to help you capture the beauty of our local seascape.

If design & crafts are more your thing, you’ll be pleased to hear that we’re opening up our window dressing competition to everyone with a street facing window or forecourt. Get into the Seafest mood with nautical themed decorations and share your photos with us to win prizes!

Local businesses will also be helping us to host our annual treasure hunt featuring Skipper and his pesky pals! Just pick up a form from Mieles during the Seafest week to take part and win a free ice-cream.

And of course – there’s the Sandcastle Competition on the 9th August! Many of you know we don’t just give prizes for the best family Sand Castles, we give prizes for the best family Sand Sculptures as well. This year we are excited to introduce a third category, aimed more at groups of adults and teens – Sand Art. In this category you can use any beach materials, like pebbles, driftwood and seaweed, as well as sand, to forge your creation. It’s a great beach-centric day out for all groups. Competition entry is £3 per team and kids get free snacks!

You can find out more about any of our competitions by emailing seafest@lossietrust.org

Held on Saturday 13th August in Station Park, this market gala will feature over 50 stalls offering local coastal treasures, as well as entertainments ranging from rides, to circus workshops, craft activities and even animal petting! The bouncy castle is also back as well as our raised bar area for the grown-ups featuring Windswept beers and Avva gin. This is great showcase for Lossiemouth, with plenty to see and do for all ages.

Do check out our full programme, save some dates and invite friends and family. We can’t wait to welcome you back to Seafest!
