THE MARQUEE RETURNS!
The Seafest Committee are pleased to announce that this year we’ll be back to having the large marquee, bar and stage facilities we had before the pandemic. Do check out some of our in-marquee events, such as our opening night – the Seafest BBQ Dance on 6th August – featuring the auction of a painting of the old and new bridge donated by artist Rob Wigham.
THE HISTORY
For anyone new to Lossiemouth – Seafest is our annual celebration of our town’s fishing heritage. It’s emergence in July 2014 helped raise funds for the formation of the Lossiemouth Community Development Trust. By 2017 it had grown into a weeklong event, and the marquee at Station Park was used for the first time to allow a greater range of activities to take place.
We are grateful for the ongoing support of the Scottish White Fish Producers Association, our local sponsors and our team of volunteers. Seafest simply couldn’t run without its dedicated committee – Donna, Andrew, Gisela, Grahame, Mo, Ericka, Fiona and Helen. We’re always looking to expand our friendly circle of passionate locals. If you’ve got a bit of time to help Seafest happen we’d love to hear from you on Facebook or by email – seafest@lossietrust.org
NEW FACES
You may have noticed some new characters on the scene – Skipper the dolphin and his pesky pals can be found on treasure hunts and at family activities during Seafest. Each one of Skipper’s cartoon friends reminds us of a unique part of Lossiemouth’s heritage, from the Herring Girl with her pet fish (Silver Darling), to powerful beings of legend – like Crystal Feet the mischievous merman, and his friend Greengoon – the magic maid who lives among the skerries! Look out for more characters still to come, like the spooky sailor Iron Hand, and Saltopus Elginensis (Salty)– possibly the earliest known dinosaur – discovered right here in Lossie!
